I know that parts of this question have been answered before, but I need the
instructions written in order for the very slow (me).
I need to transfer the database from an iMac to a PC. We are using the
run-time version. I don't think we have Filemaker on the iMac and we
definitely do not have it on the PC. Will I need to have that on one or
both ends of this transfer?
Here are the instructions as I understand them so far. Please make
corrections or additions or expansions as necessary.
1. download ebase off of the website onto the PC - which version?
2. somehow get the *.100 files off of the iMac and onto the PC--
options include:
a. e-mail the files from one computer to the other
b. copy the files uncompressed to disks compatible with
both platforms
c. pack the files onto a compatible disk using a program
that can unzip on the PC end (need to know where to
get this program)
possible problems -- data files do not cross platforms???
3. overwrite the blank *.100 files from the download with the files
transferred from the iMac.
4. try to run the thing
If the data files do not cross platforms I need very detailed instructions
on what to do instead. Realize that I have no good method of getting the
files in any format whatsoever from one computer to another because of the
issues of crossing platforms, file size, pack/unzip issues, etc, and would
welcome suggestions.
If I have to export and then import from a tab delimited file or other
format, what fields are the "must haves"? Where can I find a list of fields
and what they do so that I could select? But I bet that runs the risk of
messing up the relational part of the database.
What user is authorized to perform this -- any? master? other?
