Just ran the test, and got the results I remembered. I opened a PC
file set using the runtime application. I closed ebase and replaced
the data files with a new set of files from a Mac download. When I
attempt to launch, I get the dialog "This file cannot be opened
because it does not belong to this solution." The data files work
find cross-platform with FileMaker but it appears that there is some
issue with the packaging of a runtime solution that doesn't work.

I don't think there is a solution without using FileMaker. You need
the full application at the destination end of the transfer, or at
least to migrate the data file-by-file between the two data sets.
