Don't know about obvious, but there is a way, IF you have FileMaker,
not just the runtime application.

- First, if you follow the rest of these steps you will be making
massive changes to your data. BACK UP your ebase file set first, so
you have something to go back to if you need to.

You're going to create a FileMaker file with your phone number data
in it, create a relationship between that file and the ebase names
file, then use the FileMaker replace command to copy the data from
your phone number file into the phone number field in ebase.

- Open your phone number file in FileMaker, or create a file with the
two fields Phone Number and ID number, and import the records from
your phone number file.
- Go to the ebase names file (home screen, for example) and use the
FileMaker menu item File>Define Relationships.
- In the dialog box that comes up, select New.
- In the next dialog box, navigate to the FileMaker version of your
phone number file and click Open.
- Give it a name like PhoneTemp, and select the key fields. From
your phone number file it will be your unique membership ID, and on
the ebase side, it will be Record ID if the membership ID number came
from ebase. If it was the member number you used before transferring
to ebase, it will be Legacy ID.
- click OK

Now the ebase names file has a relationship to your phone number file.

- go to the Data Entry screen
- click the cursor into the phone number field
- select the menu item Scripts>FMPro Replace Command
- in the Replace dialog which appears, click the button for Calculated result.
- A dialog will appear in which you can enter a calculation. At the
top of the left column, select the new relationship you just created.
(It will be at the bottom of the list).
- The list of fields in the related file will appear. Double-click
the phone number. Click OK and you'll go back to the Replace dialog.
- Click Replace. FileMaker will copy the phone numbers from the
related file into the names file.

Once it's done, check a few records to be sure you got what you
expected. Then you can delete the temporary relationship you created
to avoid confusing the next person.
