Oh, so *that's* why the Name Line field was screwed up. We just changed all occurences of the Name Line field in our forms and reports to Name Line/Label, and that solved the problem. :-) I could swear I read the documentation, but I don't remember reading that we weren't supposed to change the Record Type value list. It's so easy to customize in the Admin screens that I figured we were supposed to customize it. Sure, the import scripts are a little picky, but they're easy to bypass!
