It's a shame (for me, at least) that you did it on a Mac. What
software would I need to do the same on an IBM?

I had always assumed that .pdf files were a graphics format and,
as such, ascii text couldn't be recovered.

I shall try the url given for a translation via email... that sounds
the simplest.
