Stephen,
Win 95 comes with PING (command line program).
If you ping the URL, the response contains the
actual IP address.
For example, when I open a DOS window and type
"C:\>ping ftp.slipgate.com"
I receive the response
"Pinging ftp.slipgate.com [207.227.210.155] with 32 bytes of data:"
