Well, anything is possible, but if both cables are new I would doubt that
they are bad. If you have a willing friend, acquaintance or another family
member with another computer you could check the cables on another machine,
or use a known good cable from another machine. Barring this I would opt for
one more new cable.

Well if you have the time and a meter or test light you certainly could do
this.
