I checked my disk before using a RAM-Drive and came up with:
Number of lost clutsers and program:
3 Arachne (probably wwwman.exe) crashing/locking (trying to view very big
directories with several hundreds or even thousands of files/directories)
4 HTMl files due to Netscape crashing
2 JPEgs due to Netscape crashing (probably, can't be certain but they where
on the same drive as the HTMl files)
2 LOG files from Eudora (that haven't crashed but still belonged to the
program, might be if Windows crashes while closing and SmartDRV haven't
closed the file)
So Boanne do you use Arachne to view very big directories? That could
explain some of the lost clusters.
I tried to get any errors while running Arachne on a RamDrive and I got
these errors:
1. Couldn't read mail (fiddling around with mime/arachne.cfg didn't help
either, copying an older version didn't help but installing either an older
or 1.50b2 again on the RamDrive made everything work - this might be since
I once ran the same copy as a substed drive and that has given me many many
problems even afterwards).
2. Couldn't view "title.gif" from the inbox mail (not even if I copied it
and tried some other 1.50b2 version - it did however work with 1.46 and qpv).
3. Pressing "R" to reload a galery crashed/locked Arachne Ctrl-Alt-Del got
me out of it.
As interesting as these might be none of them explain why your problem
arises (not that I don't believe they are there). As I've asked before what
happens if you do a fresh install (preferly directly to the RamDrive) and
does the older versions you have present the same problem now? (they didn't
before, but It's still worth a shot.)
Please note that I only tried off-line, the error might be in something
that's only used while on-line.
