After testing the Creative recording utility in 95dosapp.exe for DOS, I
found it was not compatible with my Sound Blaster Pro card -- the utility
package you've pointed out apparently works only with the SB16 sound card.

You probably have an SB16 sound card, and that's why it works for you.

Once again, I tried searching all the well known DOS freeware/shareware
sites, and there is nothing I've tried -- free or otherwise! -- that offers
sound recording with a microphone, under DOS, with the Sound Blaster Pro
sound card. So I'm still dependent upon Windows to produce wav files... :(

There's hundreds of sound file *players*... and the only shareware program I
found that might have worked ("Blaster Master") cannot recognize my sound
card! This program was last updated about October of 1994, so I doubt the
author is still supporting it...

There are perhaps some other old DOS "presentation" utilities that offer
sound recording, but these are rare and/or too expensive or no longer
available or supported (in registered form). If anyone can prove me wrong,
I'd be delighted.

It seems that with the *multimedia age*, Windows grabbed the spotlight and
quickly choked out further DOS development in the area...
