As I said, most likely your sound card has propetiary mixer.
CreativeLabs' "mixerset" won't work with your card; it may
appear to work, but no settings were affected. Use the
mixer program that came/bundled with your sound card.

Does it work with your card?

BTW, what kind of SB Pro compatible card we've talking about? ;-)
Are you sure it's started in SB Pro compability mode? Some
compatible sound cards require an initializer program to start
in SB Pro mode. Some other (Gravis, IIRC), even require a TSR
installed to work properly in Sound Blaster mode.
My OPTi MAD16 Pro, for example, started in MWSS (M$ Win Sound
System) mode when booted without it's initializer program. It
work fine with "Blaster Master" in SB Pro mode.

AFAIK Blaster Master came with three drivers, SB 1.0, SB 2.0,
and SB Pro. So it should be able to recognize your card. The
real problem could be either wrong configuration or your card
isn't properly initialized.
When tried Blaster Master, did you get the following error
message pop-up:
"SOUNDCARD NOT FOUND! BLASTER Master requires a Sound
Blaster or true compatible. ..."
or it crashed after displaying "Initializing sound card..." ?
If the first is the case, it's possible that you have wrong
IRQ and/or DMA parameters in the "BLASTER" environment variable
in your AUTOEXEC.BAT. To find out your current settings, type-
in "SET" command at DOS prompt, it should be displayed as:
BLASTER=A<port_num> I<IRQ_num> D<DMA_chan> T<card_typ>
For example, my SB Pro compatible's looks like this:
BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 T4
The number after "A" is I/O port in hex, "I" is IRQ (Interrupt
ReQuest) number, "D" is DRQ (Dma Request) channel, and "T" is
sound card type. The first three parameters are mandatory for
proper Sound Blaster operation under DOS. To get the correct
value for your sound card, consult it's setup program (or it's
configuration file); or if your card is non-PNP, see it's
jumper settings.
Blaster Master should be able to detect your card, even if the
"BLASTER" variable not exist. If you don't have any, most
likely the problem is out of range or conflicting IRQ and/or
DRQ settings. Most DOS programs expecting IRQ <= 7, and
DRQ == 1.
