The record.exe program comes with the *SB16* package (95dosapp.exe), which
is the only DOS program that Creative has to offer for recording purposes
with its sound cards. Along with it, there is a "mixerset" program, but it
does not correct the problem when adjusted according to your instructions
above. The resultant wav file only produces a "hissing" noise, and nothing
more, no matter what I do to the volume.

The SBPro package only provides a *Windows* mixer, which is useless under
DOS without Windows installed (of course). So Creative's SBPro setup
utility will only install some things with Windows, some things with DOS --
and there's no DOS recorder with *this* setup utility. It's just too bad, I
guess.

I should mention that my Toshiba CD driver does not work with Ramboost
installed. I've had to create a separate configuration for it without
Ramboost operating (loading whatever devices I can with specific statements
in the config.sys file in the high DOS area). I have a freeware
mixer/player that works satisfactorily with CD music under DOS -- too bad
the same isn't true for recording with a microphone under DOS (with this
SBPro compatible card).

And the "Blaster Master" program, even though it might be a good program for
some other system, doesn't recognize my SBPro compatible card.
