The only Creative file on the present website that seems to contain the
*record.exe* program (which records wav sound files) is the "95dosapp.exe"
package, and that file is actually the installation package for the SB16 --
it apparently works for Mr. Goldenberg's SB card (whether or not it's an
actual SB16 or compatible), but it doesn't work for my Sound Blaster Pro
compatible card. Nonetheless, the installation files contained in the
sbpdu.exe, sbpup, exe and playup.exe files (these three are specifically
from the same SBPro section you've mentioned in the URL above) worked just
fine with my sound card. Unfortunately, the record.exe program doesn't work
right; it *seems* like it's working (power light pulsing on my computer
deck, a large file is created -- but the file doesn't work with play.exe),
but after closer examination, it's not functioning properly with my SBPro
drivers. The record.exe program doesn't work with a SBPro card (or
compatible); it appears to be designed specifically for the SB16 card. Of
course, the SBPro packages have Windows support, and I'm sure I could
install that and access recording capabilities -- but that's not DOS, and
I wouldn't be accomplishing my goal with this particular sound card and
system.

So I can get this card to do everything I want under DOS (play wav and
midi files and CD music), but there's not a readily available recording
program for it. Have you noticed that the big archives out there have gobs
of players and almost no recorders? Perhaps there've been too many concerns
about copyright restrictions...?
