Hi, Yolanda,
Since that CPU temp tollerance figure of 185 DG. would be 365 DG. Fahrenheit
had it been stated as a Celsius reading, you now have your answer. The
Celsius equivalent of 185 DG. F. would be 85 DG.

As for the case open versus case closed debate, especially if the cover is
heavy metal, leave that case closed. The case not only channels the air
stream of the fans over the hottest places, but it acts as a bit broad
heat sink as well. My old Compaq which is in a case built to laugh at a
small bomb explosion, stays on continuously and the air that blows out the
vents in the back is only slightly warmer than that which is pulled in
through the front of the case. This was true even in that one recent hot
summer when I had no air conditioning in the apartment. The CPU might not
get as hot as some of the modern Pentium-class ones, but the old cards with
all those old DRAM memory chips, and the huge, heavy ESDI hard drive, and
the old video card and all those extra chips on the old motherboard do get
hot, and those chips don't have their own fans, and only the CPU has a small
ceramic heat sink.
