Makes up for lost revenues on Long Distance since they lost the monopoly
there. It's really terribly expensive to provide service to far flung and
sparsely populated areas, costs those residents could ill afford. they'd
sooner go to wireless radio than have a phone at actual cost.
Therefor, the extra revenues made on a cheap yet luxury service, used to be
long distance, now is internet, are used to subsidize the necessary utility
where it is expensive. I am glad that my telco won't go bankrupt too soon,
but it doesn't seem to be getting fat. I wouldn't mind a job with them either.
