If you press the ram firmly into their sockets, this error might
disappear. It's possible that 640K is installed, but one chip is bad on
the highest numbered bank. You can try replacing the whole bank with a
bank from an identical XT. Parity is a way to test ram by comparing an
"extra" bit with the rest of the data bus. It is seldom used in PCs
anymore.
