Since I got a extra set of chips I was able to get my XT running again.
At start up the memory count runs to 640kb and everything is fine.
After a certain period of time (heat dependent?) the computer freezes and
can only be restarted with a cold boot. A parity error will show.
At the new start up the count will hang on certain instances.
Once in a while on 96, sometimes 352 and 400, 416 kb.
Dividing these values by 32 I concluded that in the first case chip 3 must be
at fault and in case of the value 400/416 chip number 13.
After a rest for the remainder of the night I was not so sure of my idea. If
it counts 96 kb before it hangs again, is the third chip ok and is the
number 4 malfunctioning? Somebody an answer.
And in case of the values 400 and 416. which chips would be the cause. Both
number 13 and 14 or only 13.
Apart from the troublesome testing on the motherboard, pulling chips and
replacing them by others, is there a method of checking them with an normal
electrical tester? I would like to sort out the bad ones. Right now I really
have no idea which is bad and which still functions.
Is it right that chips of different values (speed? 20 15 etc) can not be
mixed?
As I get the digest form, a direct cc reply would be appreciated.
