I've experienced this problem several times on XT's equipped with a
hard drive. In every case I have found that the jumper settings
on the mother board were not configured correctly for the situation
of a hard drive being present. To solve the problem, all you have to
do is to reconfigure the mother-board jumper settings. Information
on how to do this is found in most of the older PC repair books. If
you don't have access to an old book on the subject, then you may
communicate with me by private email and I will send the information
   you need.

Some days an XT having an incorrect configuration of jumper settings
will boot properly and run OK anyway. Some days there will be
PARITY CHECK errors. If you want your XT to run OK every day, then
you will have to change the jumper settings.

   I KNOW this will help.
