Unless it's the appeal of the arcane calling, I'd simply find some RG-58AU
(thin ethernet) cabling and terminators for the Ethernet NICs. You'll
probably have much better luck getting it running in the short-term, plus
you can migrate to UTP cabling later with a small hub with both BNC and
RJ-45 connections. You should also be able to find more cabling for less
hassle this way.

I ran ARCnet for a couple of years, and it was fun stuff, but life is much
nicer with Ethernet. I finally migrated to 10/100 by exactly this path.

Good luck! Old networks never die! They just wind up doing weird stuff.
