Don't worry.  It's quite stable.  You will probably find
it easier to get your bearings if you make sure the
current directory is shown in the command prompt.

You may be confused by having a /bin directory and a /usr/bin
directory and a /usr/X11/bin directory.  But they are all
distinct directories and could have exactly the same names
in DOS.

No, the  / directory and the /root directory are different
directories.  If you log into your Linux system as "root",
you will start in the /root directory.  To get to the /
directory, type "cd .."

It is best for newbies to stick to their chosen
distribution and install only the applications which
are preconfigured for that distribution.
