Don't worry, the CLI will not die. Sure, there is a lot
of development in Linux to polish the GUI, but this doesn't
mean it's more important than the CLI. Horses for courses.
If you are a point+click GUI-lover, get Corel Linux and you
never have to see the command line. If you are a hardcore
CLI-lover, get Slackware Linux and hack away to your heart's
content. The choice is yours.
If the Linux desktop is too bloated for you, use a simple
window manager instead. Or, dump the window manager and
execute your X applications individually from the CLI.
The choice is yours. That's the great thing about Linux:
it gives you plenty of choices.
