I was with you until that last sentence. I would change that to "for
carefree editing of non-system files". PICO can be an absolute disaster if
you use it to edit those all-too-critical system scripts and such. Edit a
one of your rc scripts with the default word-wrap settings, and all hell
breaks loose when you finally do need to reboot. On Linux/Unix, that could
be weeks, so good luck remembering what you edited that might need repair,
never mind getting into the damned thing!
It's probably a good idea for any newbies to distinguish between "system"
(root) tasks and end-user tasks. Tread lightly and make frequent backup
copies and rescue diskettes until you've mastered things. It's not hard, but
it can be tricky.
