Been there, done that. I hated waiting to reboot all the time. Computer
is useless when in linux and I needed to get into windows to read anything
or make inquiries or follow instructions.
Besides, dammit, I haven't had the time to screw around with yet another
thing lately. I had no intention of even thinking about linux before the
millenium! I'm desperately seeking work, terrified and depressed and
anxious, volunteering all over to try and get the experience to get hired,
fighting with a machine that won't print anything at all complex and the
machine I was going to TRY to put linux on is a bunch of circuitry tied to
plywood! Not only that, but there isn't any clear workspace on which to
put said hunk of junk in this tiny house.
I will get to that mammoth mix of mental maelstroms known as linux all in
good time, but not today and not likely tomorrow either. Today I'm going
down to the mental patient social club to cobble together three pieces of
junk into what might be one computer, and apply at a disabilty employment
agency, and try to get in a workout at the Y, then I have my cleaning job
tonight. And so it goes.
AFAIK Mandrake is optimised for Pentiums anyway. So Debian would be a

I'll try debian next. If I can get it onto the laptop it will be much
easier to work with as there is such an incredible shortage of free space
in my undersized cottage of a dwelling.

That sounds interesting too. Will keep this letter with the others in my
folder for later reference. When my head stops pounding.

I'm not in a rush to learn, let's not try to put me in one, 'kay?
I've been at this over a year, what's a few more weeks/months?
Wish I could just afford the $250 bucks for the short course offered at the
community college. That is the start I REALLY need. A structured course
with someone to question and running, configured machines to practice on!
My main complaint with telnet is the lack of speed. I sit wondering for
some time if the command has gone through. Sometimes it did, sometimes it
didn't. Takes WAY too long to do far too little. I'd rather go clean up
the dog poop in the backyard.
