What do you mean here? It is perfectly possible to navigate in Windows -- at
least enough to do the troubleshooting we're talking about -- using ONLY the
keyboard, no mouse.

Did you try yanking a UART off one of the com boards then? 50:50 shot, and
it might just work. Try moving the mouse between the ports then, and see if
it responds as COM1 or COM2. THEN set the modem as the other.
