Hi;
I was wondering if anyone is using a COMMAND.COM replacement, such as
JP Software's 4DOS.
When I say COMMAND.COM replacement, I mean just COMMAND.COM
replacement, not DOS replacement.
I've been using JP Software's 4DOS (http://www.jpsoft.com) for quite a
few years now, and could not perform the tasks I do without it. For
example, it allows me to change to a directory without knowing where the
directory is. I just type the name, for example, SOURCE, and it changes
to that directory. If I have more than one directory named SOURCE, it
pops up a list of all directories with SOURCE, from which I choose the
one I want.
The batch language of 4DOS outshines QBASIC. With the 4DOS batch
language, I can do in a DOS batch file what would normally take QBASIC
to do.
While there are many programs on the market that will do what 4DOS
does on an individual basis, all of those features are lumped into 4DOS
as one package. The only add-on to 4DOS that I use is the Ink Utilities
(http://www.inkland.demon.co.uk), as it offers tools that even 4DOS does
not have.
Maybe it's because I've been a registered 4DOS user for so many years,
and am happy with it, that I've never bothered to see what other
COMMAND.COM replacements are out there. Curiosity has me wondering, and
I thought this list may be the best way to find out.
