It mostly sounds like broken hardware to me. The obvious test to see if
it's Windows related is to use it without Windows. Install Arachne
http://home.arachne.cz and see if it still crashes. Arachne should use
most of your hardware so if something is severly broken it will show
up. If you still get problems I'm afraid the motherboard is broken.
The memory and hardisk should be ok. A damaged CPU usually doesn't
even boot and heat is not much of a problem on a 386.
BTW go for W95b. It's much more stable than 95a and USB support shouldn't
be in the way of ISA (very different protocols).
