Well, I've had success with hyperterminal, although the answering machine
software may be resetting the modem on me, so I don't know how useful
that'll be in the long run.  At least I know the modem can do it and what
the string should be, I just have to hunt down the init string, whereever
the heck it's hiding, and edit it.
