Pippi, if this is how it is where you live, I want to move there. :)
In my place, you -are- being forced. Here is how:

Most israeli, even though they have some knowledge in english, they
prefer to use hebrew, even on the internet. Unfortunatly, there is no
actuall standard for that. So, when sending E-Mail, they usually use
attached Word documents. Even worse is when they send excell
spreadsheets
and Power point representations. In Israel, Microsoft is the biggest,
and only standard - there is simply no other alternative in the local
market. Even linux is still concidered an "OS for the weird".

For some reason, whenever there is a new office, or word, or anything,
everyone rush to upgrade. The end result: you suddenly cant read your
E-Mails anymore unless you upgrade your office. The general opinion
that most israeli users have is "If you upgrade something like office,
you better upgrade the whole thing or it might wouldnt work". Sounds
stupid,
but thats how it is.

So, a new office, and they buy a new windows and a new machine. And soon
if you dont have the same - you're in a problem.

And I allready know abuot word viewers for DOS and etc'. Only one
problem.
They do not support hebrew.

So, while where you live nobody is being forced to upgrade, and thats
great, unfortunatly thats not the situation here. :)
