A torture indeed! <g>  But I believe that the original
poster was looking for batch programming solution, which
of course won't work with any windoze "keyboard eliminator"
or even DOSes own edit.com.

However, someone with C background like me might go for
Perl for such text processing stuff.  Its a lot more
powerful (IMHO).  There's a DOS port for any PC (v4.x)
available from the Gnuish Project:
