Karen,
There are several sites that do shell accounts
with telnet access. If you go to
http://www.instinct.org/shells/
you will find a whole list of them.
I have an account at Hobbiton.org and freeshell.org
(on their lonestar.org box), they sell a lifetime account
membership for something like $40 which gives you
access to all the Unix goodies, like FTP and mail.
