Jerry,

Radio Shack! Ahhh, the memories.
I'm a Heath/Zenith 89/90 and KayPro guy, myself.

I used to have to interface printers with just about
anything with a Z80 in it, and I recall the thing with
Tandy using "Carriage Return without Line Feed"
sent at the end of a line, while the rest of the world
was doing "Carriage Return *with* Line Feed" to
end lines.

Most dot-matrix printers have a switch under the
cover (or in back) which (among other things)
toggles between CR-Only and CR-LF modes. In
the CR-Only mode (also called "Auto LF" mode),
the printer adds its own LF when it receives a CR,
thus advancing the paper.

Many printers will also allow this setting to be
changed though escape sequences. My books are
still packed from the move, but I'm sure that stuff
can be sniffed out on the 'net.

Let me know if you get stuck finding that info.

~~ Garry
