Ah, yes... here it is from my Okidata Microline 182 Turbo manual:

"When a carriage return is received, the printer prints one line of
data.  If internal switch 3 is set ON for automatic line feed, the
carriage return will be accompanied by a line feed."

So if I wish to print my TRS-80 files, that's what I'll have to do
on that printer to have it come out correctly.  The manual *does*
show the location of the switches, and it shows that the default
setting for automatic carriage return is "off".  That explains it.
