The 'K5' and PR-rating are printed on the chip itself, so i'm pretty sure it
is a K5 100Mhz. I'm also sure about the motherboard, it has jumper settings
for Intel Pentium, Cyrix M?? and AMD K5. I already had some trouble in
searching the motherboard facturer, which was needed, 'cause i had to
re-burn the BIOS (it was broke and didn't allow to boot). The motherboard
isn't a real 'brand' i think and uses the Opti VIPER and VIA chipsets. They
also used some strange IDE-controller which already caused some trouble
under win95 (now solved :). Normally it should have the right BIOS now, but
on boot up, it always shows wrong speeds... it shows something like CPU: -S
CPU at 66Mhz while it's effectively running at 100Mhz (tested with
benchmarks). Before i changed the BIOS, it gave a CPU: Am486DX**** or
something like that... Anyway... first edition of Win95 recognizes it as a
Pentium (i guess it doesn't know about K5), under Linux it's recognized as
AuthenticAMD K5 (SSA).
I don't know if i'm really operating outside specifications, i used the BIOS
defaults, so...
But this weekend i'll give it an extra harddrive to boot Linux from, i'll
see if it gives problems on that OS. Problem is that i have a Winmodem, so i
need windows to get on the net.
Anyway... this system costed me already too much trouble to give up now.
