It is for this that the networking and internet was created. You make a
connection between the two machines. Either you call on the phone with a
direct connection or use some kind of backbone netwroking. You might use
the internet, or some kind of VPN tunnel under the internet protocols and
you transfer the files on which you are working. You ensure that the two
machines both have the necessary applications to work that file compatibly.
Here at home I have a laptop that I can take with me. When I return home I
can upload the files I've been working on via the LAN. When I am away I
can hook the laptop into whatever LAN I find there so long as it's the very
common 10/100 ethernet LAN type. I can download files to the laptop thereby.
I suppose to a degree I use the laptop the way you used to use the hard
drive. Other people use a palm for this too.
I can also send files to people via email, ftp and http protocols,
pcanywhere, VNC and other remote mastering software, or even have a dialup
server on my home PC for others to telephone into. (have not yet met
anyone who's successfully done this on the w9x platform although you are
supposed to be able to).
You can also use a null modem parallel cable between two PCs to transfer
data using one of a few very nice DOS based or win based transfer applications.
