Hmm.... I haved moved data on HDs between computers running these OS (or
GUIs):
NT4 <-> DOS
NT4 <-> Me
NT4 <-> Linux
95 <-> Me
98 <-> Me
I assume I can mix and match however I want, but the above are the only
ones I've tried. None of the above mentioned OS was "tailored" for this
purpose in any way.
So I don't understand what you mean. If you mean moving programs (such as
the OS), then it's of course more difficult with the newer Windows version,
but that wasn't what you were complaining about.

Immaterial for data. Only matters for the OS (or GUI). I suggest that you
don't move hda (or C: if you so prefer) but keep hda on the machines
running whatever OS you need on them along with the programs. Then the data
which you need can be stored on the HD you move around (I would prefer hdc
but some may disagree).

Moving a HD for data transport is of course easier than having a laptop,
especially since you aren't so limited in HD space since it's easier to
switch HD than to upgrade a laptop.
