As you have discovered adding memory can't increase the low memory available.
It's locked in at 1 meg max. :-)

Here you could try shsucdx.exe, a very small universal
CD driver. It may work for you?

Not sure smartdrv automatically loads high? You could
try "LH smartdrv.exe" and find out?

You should also use:
C:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.EXE 2048 16 /Q
C:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.EXE A- B- K- /C /Q

The first buffer size is for DOS, second for Windows.
Smartdrv defaults to 16k but I put it in there just to
be safe.

The next line tells smartdrv NOT to cache drives a,b,and k
(k = CD drive here).

You don't need emm386 in your path statement (noramlly) but
it won't hurt anything I suppose?

Here you could try Cute-Mouse (ctmouse.exe) from the
FreeDOS utilities. Much smaller mouse driver.

Share isn't required AFAIK to use Arachne. Usually only
needed for IExplorer.

>NWCACHE 3396 1024 /LEND=ON /DELAY=OFF

You're loading a SECOND cache program on top of
smartdrv. This is a no-no and shouldn't be done.
Smartdrv (newer v4.x) is quite good and doesn't
need the interference.

Will this "LH" for you possibly?

Nope, you can remove that.

DPMI should not be 'off'. This look totally wrong but I
don't use DrDOS here either. :-\

Your environment for variables is too small, use
COMMAND.COM /P /E:1152

I use:
BUFFERS=53
FILES=80
FCBS 5,5

Try shsucdx.exe here.

'Country' is only required if you want a keyboard other
than English?

I tried. :-\

With 32 meg you could also use TDSK to setup a ramdrive
for %temp% that Arachne can use for temporary files. It
would speed Arachne up a bit. TDSK uses only 500 bytes of low
memory.
