Hi all, I am having trouble running the DOS app; Arachne(arachne.cz)
normally it would run with my 8MB RAM if I rem'ed out everything in my autoexec.bat and devicehigh'ed everything in my config.sys however, now I want to run it(the latest version) on/from a zip disk which means I *Must* be able to load my zip drive driver... so I added more RAM to my old machine: I went from 8MB to my current 32MB of RAM yet I still can't get Arachne to run with the zip drive driver(and other drivers like for my CD-ROM) loaded in my autoexec.bat (: when I try to run Arachne after boot-up, I still get the Arachne "out of conventional (low) memory 24,000KB" I thought by adding more RAM this would not happen I am running Caldera DR-DOS 7.02 or 7.03 so there is no mem sys command or memmaker(however everything in config.sys is DEVICEHIGH already) (I can't now get MS-DOS to run completely again even if I use old copies of autoexec.bat and config.sys (:) so I guess i'm stuck with DR-DOS here's what I get when I type "mem" in DR-DOS: Memory Type Total Bytes ( Kbytes ) Available for Programs Conventional 655,360 ( 640K ) 511,440 ( 499K ) Upper 163,840 ( 160K ) 108,048 ( 106K ) High 65,520 ( 64K ) 2,224 ( 2K ) Extended 32,505,856 (31,744K ) 0 ( 0K ) Extended via XMS ----------- 28,536,832 (27,868K ) Largest executable program: 464,400 ( 454K ) Total Free DOS memory: 619,488 ( 605K ) my autoexec.bat: set SOUND16=C:\utilitie\DIAMOND\ SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 T4 C:\utilitie\DIAMOND\MSCDEX.EXE /D:DMSCD01 /M:12 C:\utilitie\DIAMOND\SNDINIT.EXE /b C:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.EXE @ECHO Off :lh novafont.com PATH C:\DRDOS;C:\NWCLIENT;C:\WINDOWS;C:\DOS;C:\internet\TWSK20;C:\utilitie\D IAMOND;C:\EMM386;C:\ PROMPT $p$g VERIFY OFF SET TEMP=C:\DOS IF NOT DIREXIST %TEMP% MD %TEMP% SET DRDOSCFG=C:\DRDOS c:\utilitie\MOUSE\mouse C:\DOS\SHARE /L:500 /f:5100 NWCACHE 3396 1024 /LEND=ON /DELAY=OFF TZ=EST7EDT C:\ZIPTOOLS\GUEST.EXE rem c:\windows\win md c:\temp set temp=c:\temp rem set path=%path%;c:\arachne rem arachne ------ should EMM386 be moved closer to the beginning of my PATH statement?? should I make sure a DIR exists that is named and contains EMM386?? ------ my config.sys: DEVICEHIGH=C:\DRDOS\EMM386.EXE DPMI=OFF FRAME=NONE DEVIVEHIGH=C:\DRDOS\DPMS.EXE DEVICEHIGH=C:\DRDOS\SETVER.EXE SHELL=C:\COMMAND.COM C:\ /E:512 /P BREAK=OFF REM DEVICEHIGH=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS REM DEVICEHIGH=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS REM DEVICEHIGH=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS i=E000-EFFF DEVICEHIGH=C:\DRDOS\ANSI.SYS DOS=HIGH,UMB FILES=40 BUFFERS=40 FCBS=4,4 DEVICEHIGH=C:\utilitie\DIAMOND\CDSETUP.SYS /T:I /P:170 /I:15 DEVICEHIGH=C:\utilitie\DIAMOND\TOSHIBA.SYS /D:DMSCD01 LASTDRIVE=Z HISTORY=ON,512,ON COUNTRY=1,,C:\DRDOS\COUNTRY.SYS STACKS=9,256 please help! andy <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe from SURVPC send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with unsubscribe SURVPC in the body of the message.
