I have fond memories of the time when UNIX people were in
'the zone' and didn't tend to associate with the rest of
the world. Reading their conversations about 'C' programming
eventually generated enough curiousity that I bought the K&R
book to better understand what they were discussing and then
eventually the DOS Borland TurboC compiler to try out some
of the code they passed within their messages. Almost like
decyphering cryptography in those days. LOL

I've been wondering about that very thing. I tend to like W98SE
third party software. It seems you can imagine ANY program you
might want and go find it on the web. Often freeware to boot!
I haven't been watching closely until recently how often this is
the case for NT based Windows. I know that at one time much of
W9x was listed as NOT compatible with WinNT. :-\

I WANT to be using W2K Pro but not if it makes finding third
party software difficult or expensive.

I haven't been hearing about FreeGEM? What's being done with
GEM lately?

Worrisome. I wonder how many other phrases there are that
reverse themselves as they pass over the Atlantic?
