No. This is not correct Steven. I have it running here on my P90 on a
Vectorlinux install WITHOUT Gimp. Ted is a more or less self-contained
package, it seems to me. I sent an LDD output for Ted to the list recently:
did you see it? I can post it again, if needed.

Ok. I'll perform some tests, since I have both installed here. I have to
say that preliminary tests show that Ted seems overly slow on some things,
e.g., initial opening of a long document. Opening of formatting menus
seems quite slow as well. I'll try and attach some conrete figures to
those impressions soon. The interface is nice: the more I use it, the more
I'm beginning to like it. It is simple, yet powerful. In terms of
stability, this latest release (2.12) has performed admirably. I think
I've mentioned that I had some stability problems with the previous
release. Abiword, on the other hand, has unceremoniously crashed on me at
least once. It simply disappeared from the screen as I was attempting to
do something (don't recall exactly what: I know I had 2 documents open at
the time, both of which vanished from the screen). To its credit, perhaps,
afterward I noted 2 newly created documents in my home dir, each named
exactly as those that had been open when the crash occurred - except that
they had the extension ".crashed". Seems like a nice safety feature.
Anyway, my preliminary feeling is that Ted is going to be a bit slower.
We'll see.

I'll try and perform some timing tests soon and post them to the list.

James
