Hi Rachel,
On the grounds of all the defects you've listed above, may I suggest
XFMail which, as far as I am concerned, performs well in all these
respects (and many others)?
I find it a nice user experience, it is pretty straightforward to
comprehend (though there are a few features you may have to scratch your
head over a bit), it can handle several POP3 sources, it provides good
filtering rules, etc. In fact it has more useful options than I'm
able to count.
