Well let's debate it then.  This is certainly the right place.  B-)

Personally I would tend to say no.  Stamping "This is Collectible" on
something does not make it so.  Also, items sold specifically as collectors
items tend not to dramatically increase in value, since people tend to keep
them... because they're "collector's items".  Look at the very first game
package sold as a collectible: The Scott Adams Limited Gold Edition.  I have
yet to see one sell for higher than the original purchase price of $100.  I
got both of mine for less than half that.  It's the stuff we threw out as
junk two decades ago that's becoming valuable now.  Add to that what Jim
says about today's "collector's editions" being intentionally mass-produced
to ensure everybody who wants one can get one before the supply runs out.
