Good morning Andre, good morning everybody.

It is, however our partnership agreement with them includes shared
operations: we manage the infrastructure jointly and we always try to
be coordinated for any development which concerns both parties. As far
as I know, this has worked very nicely in practice so far and we believe
a similar good relationship will be possible with Telehouse (Suisse) S.A.
owned by IXEurope. Our first, preliminary meeting with IXEurope was indeed
held in a positive atmosphere.
CERN intends to continue to provide the CIXP services as we did in the
past (or hopefully better) and work with any external party which is
interested in cooperating with us. This has been successful with
Telehouse (Suisse) S.A., which is offering some complementary services
with respect to ours, so we welcome the opportunity to continue the
agreement with IXEurope, if they wish so.
As general statement, CERN always welcomes opportunities to actively
participate in the development of the Internet in Switzerland and we
are ready to discuss how to do so with anyone, within the limits of
our resources.

[what below is my personal opinion only, not a formal statement from CERN]
While I can clearly see the interest for some organisations to have a
national, distributed IXP, I am not sure this would be compatible with
what we consider as our (as - I believe - it should be every IXP's) basic
principle of operations, i.e. neutrality.
A widely distributed IXP should be viewed under several different
aspects. If the subject is considered as interesting, perhaps Pascal
can include it as a panel in one of the next SwiNOG meetings agenda: I
don't think any positive conclusion can be reached easily only on a
mailing list and we might end up just wasting our time.
By the way, I apologise for not having attended the latest SwiNOG,
but we had a high priority commitment here at CERN (totally unrelated
from the change of property of Telehouse (Suisse) S.A.), which could
not be missed.
Best regards,
Paolo
