In that particular case - to save you unnecessary keystrokes. Like Fabien mentioned, the key idea of Symfony2 is to help you convert a request into response, core.view is yet another place the conversion can take place, given it hasn't happened yet. I don't think we should remove flexibility, especially since it doesn't removes any complexity with it.
