Well, there's no guarantee about what the input expression will look like, whether it needs to be factored at level 1, or needs to be expanded and canceled, or what. All we know is that it *will* be an element of K[z, 1/z] if we rewrite it correctly (or else there is a bug in my code).

Surely determining if an element of K(z) is an element of K[z, 1/z] is decidable. After all, it's only a rational function.
