I just realized I haven't updated this. Work is progressing, two pull
requests are already in and a third is about to go:

I'll post the remaining failures (and/or open issues) here once the new
pull request is in and I catch some more low-hanging fruit. We're at the
stage where the remaining tests are something subtle so I'll probably need
help. Also adding the Python3 label and a "blocked on" issue #2574.
