There seem to be a fair number of people using Lazarus, as questions (about
sometimes very peculiar problems) do pop up here with some regularity; and
those using it will probably respond with good details. As for my analysis,
done some years ago: there didn't seem to be any possibility that Lazarus...
would catch up to Kylix 3 Enterprise within the foreseeable future, so I
pretty much gave up on that idea.
It took me quite a bit of digging around (and Linux learning at the time) to
gather all the needed information, but you CAN make the Kylix IDE work very
well with later kernels; it just takes a bit of work. The best resources for
guiding this, if you choose to go this way are located at:

which contains basically the instructions for all later kernels/distros, not
just SUSE.
