I have spent part of the last couple of weeks looking at aggregators since I am in the final stages of writing (with Danny Ayers) Beginning RSS & Atom Programming. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0764579169/qid%3D1102345089/026-0883427-8064404 There are LOTS of aggregators which do the basics. Newsgator (if you use Outlook), NewzCrawler, RSS Bandit come to mind. Mozilla Thunderbird now has RSS feeds. As does Onfolio 2.0 Beta. Omea and Abilon are, in distinct ways, a bit different from the crowd. The Firefox 1.0 browser has "Live Bookmarks" which are quite clever. They need a bit of work on the interface though. But they do work. Then there is the Habari Xenu extension for Firefox. I would suggest that you try a couple for a period of time. Then think more carefully about what it is that you want to do with RSS/Atom information feeds that the aggregators you have tried don't let you do. Then maybe ask again once you feel you see more clearly what you want to do. For example, do you want just to watch news as it flashes by? Or do you want to store some information longer term? Do you want to see everything that comes from a feed? Or do you want to filter it? If you want to "start simple" then I would suggest you look at Thunderbird 0.9 - http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/ . The price is right. :) It's not the only free one around but if you start with it and become comfortable with information feeds then decide if that's all you need.
