I do not think the issue of a sync'd timestamp mechanism is that important. I think most important is that the information gets logged in a secure and authentic method. As for having the correct time set on a specific machine, perhaps it should be suggested that the host connect to a time server on regular occasions (configuration of a cron?). My 2c.
