And I'll bet that Basilisk II has reduced the speed of your G4 to a PB100. ;) While I haven't dealt with many large word processor documents, a friend of mine noted that modern computers seem to have a lot of trouble with large text files. Older programs didn't run into such problems (at least, the ones designed to handle more than 32 kB of text). I suspect that is because modern programs load the entire document into memory and let the OSes memory manager deal with it. Whether or not it was efficient depended largely upon how good the memory manager was for dealing with a certain type of data structures. Old programs (I suspect) just loaded the desired chunk of the file into memory, so that was much quicker. I'm also a fan of the AHD. It is small, fast, cheap, and will run on anything. I think I spent a total of $10 and have copies for OS/2, Windows, and Macintosh. :) I'd like to try out WriteNow one day. I've never heard a bad word about it. (And I may have a lead on it: somebody may be contacting me for data conversion, and they'd give me their old computer -- with WriteNow -- in exchange. :) Byron. -- System6 is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... 123Inkjets.com <http://lowendmac.com/ad/123inkjets.html> Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> System 6 Heaven <http://www.euronet.nl/users/mvdk/system_6_heaven.html> System6 info: <http://lowendmac.com/lists/system6.html> --> AOL users, remove "mailto:" Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/system6%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Mac?
