i've been having a lot
of problems finding a word processor (that i like) for Mac OS X that doesn't
choke (i.e., slow down) on large documents. the latter is pretty silly,
considering that WriteNow 4.0 kicked butt on files exceeding 200k words, and
many of the big "alternative" word processors out there (Mellel, Nisus Writer
Express) just get more and more miserable the longer the document gets, and
can't even handle 100k words without slowing down to the point of being
irritating or unusable.
Curious isn't it? LIke no software maker is taking word processing serious anymore.. Even more curious is the fact that WriteNow is in fact the very first word processor writtten for NextStep, the grandfather of the current Mac OS X.... It was made by NeXt itself. Parts of its code are probably still lurking around somewhere in the cocoa environment of the current Mac OS X.
Anyone know how well MS Word X copes with large docs?
Myself? At home I still use writenow on my Plus running system 6. At the office I use AppleWorks 6.2.9, not a perfect program, but it is sufficient.
