I had a stopover at JFK on 9/16.. and i still saw the
310-160 being broadcast. I know that all other
Omnipoint markets have been converted but I can say
for a fact that not all of the NYC area has stopped
broadcasting that code. Now I did not look for
310-260.. it is possible for a network to broadcast
more then one ID number but the equipment i was using
registers in numeric order.
Another point to bring up EONS is ultimately controled
by the firmware in the phone you are using. If
programmed the phone can give the option to enable
EONS or not. There are a number of handsets out there
with OEM firmware which will not use EONS by default..
instead they will display either the broadcast name of
the network or the name as it appears in the phones
dataset. If the phone does name display from a list in
the firmware you can get interesting results.. like
seeing Sprint as the provider on your GSM only phone
in Colorado when roaming (the Sprint Spectrum ID
number has been recycled). Or seeing something like
USA-066 when a network is unknown and not broadcasting
a name.
In the end if you really want to control what is
displayed you will either have to 1) hack the custom
t-mobile firmware, 2) install OEM firmware that has
the option to control the displayed name, or 3) hack
the OEM firmware to control that display.
